Do You Like Peking Duck?

If yes, then I have a must-try recommendation for you.

About a year ago, I was at Dragon Mart with a friend. After what felt like an endless march through the maze of shops, carrying our shopping bags and feeling exhausted, hunger struck. I said, “We’re already here in International City, China Cluster - let’s find a good Chinese restaurant!”

After a quick Google search, we came across Quanjude Restaurant, a place specializing in Peking Duck. The name immediately caught my attention. Quanjude is actually a legendary brand from Beijing, known for its duck since the 1800s.
When we arrived, an old outdoor sign hinted that this spot had been there for quite some time. The restaurant itself is small, with only about five tables. It’s a bit messy and clearly doubles as a storage area, with plastic tablecloths, boxes in the corner, and a casual, no-frills vibe. But don’t let appearances fool you. The moment you sit down, they bring you a complimentary green tea, and you start to feel that this place might be special.
On the walls are photos of the owner with Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, a clear point of pride for the chef, who once served him personally.

And then comes the food.

The Peking Duck was perfectly done, with crispy skin, tender meat, and that rich, smoky flavor that only a true master can achieve. We ordered a full set menu, which included the duck, pak choi with garlic, a delicious beef and potato dish, and a spicy jellyfish salad. Every single dish was bursting with flavor.

The entire menu cost only 199 AED, and despite being starving, we couldn’t finish it all. Easily enough for four people. To put it in perspective, a full Peking Duck here is just 118 AED. I’ve had Peking Duck in upscale Chinese restaurants downtown where you pay between 500 and 1000 AED for half a duck, and honestly, they weren’t even half as good as this one.
Since that first visit, I’ve been coming back at least once a month. I would visit even more often, but it’s a bit far from where I live. I’ve tried several other dishes, and I’ve never been disappointed, but the Peking Duck remains my absolute favorite: unbeatable in both taste and price.
It’s probably not the place for a romantic dinner or a fancy night out, but if you love authentic Chinese food, especially Peking Duck, Quanjude Restaurant is a must-visit hidden gem.
